How Do I Get Better at League of Legends?

First things first, there is no easy one size fits all solution to success at League. Different players have different strengths and weaknesses, and different situations can affect the time they can devote to League of Legends.

That being said, there are a few key things that aspiring players can do to maximize their

playtime to ensure they are getting the most bang for their buck.

Pick A Champion Class, And Stick to It

Often an issue that crops up is players flipping around what champions they play with on

the regular. This is a recipe for failure.

How can anyone expect to get better with a champion if they don’t play that champion long

enough to learn the ropes?

Choose your class, or better yet, a main champion, and dedicate yourself to them. Learn

them and become an expert in their play. Every champion and class have their own nuances; they are in-depth and require 100s of hours to master.

Speaking of 100s of hours…

Practice, Practice, Practice

Like any game or sport, the number one way to get better is to simply play more. The more you play the more you learn and the faster your reactions are, the greater your situational awareness grows.

Practice with a team or by yourself. A team is better if you have the choice. It allows you to work on communication and coordination, as well as strategy and tactical play. Don’t be afraid to play by yourself, however.

Solo queuing, while infuriating at times, is a great way to learn and grow as a player. You can work on your individual skills and learn to adapt to the situation around you.

It is absolutely vital, however, that you practice with purpose. Just booting up the game and jumping in, while better than nothing, is not enough. You need to be particular in what you are doing. Do you need to work on your jungleing? Then do that exclusively.

The same goes if you are struggling offensively or defensively. Make sure you are using your time wisely, putting practice into where it needs to go.

Get That Game Knowledge

So you’ve got your champion, you’ve got your game time, what’s next?

Your game knowledge.

Game knowledge is possibly the single most important factor that makes a good player. Skill and talent are great and all, but if you don’t know the mechanics and interactions of the game then you cannot ever be truly great.

What is game knowledge? It is your understanding of different technical aspects of the game. How certain buffs interact with each other, how abilities work together, how items stack, and of course map knowledge all fall under this banner.

When you have strong game knowledge, you can make more informed decisions in the heat of battle, oftentimes coming out on top due to your superior understanding of the game.

There are plenty of ways to increase your game knowledge. As mentioned, practice can do it. However, you can also study the game.

Watch YouTube videos on the various different interactions of the game, and of your champion, and watch the pros play, to be the best you need to learn from the best.
